Media Center Services
Warwick's library media centers serve students in grades K – 5. Students attend class once a week for 45 minutes. The library media centers hold open library times through out the week, in which students or classes utilize the library and its resources. The library is not open to the general public.
The library maintains a collection of print and digital materials which is enhanced with numerous online resources. Students, parents and staff are apprised of the online resources through instruction during faculty meetings, PTA meetings and class time, and have access to the library website from home or school. During class time students are instructed in the effective use of information and technology. Key components of instruction include, but are not limited to, the use of Google Slides, Google Docs, the use of databases, video production techniques, Internet safety, research skills, computer concepts such as coding, and of course book selection. A love of reading is developed from Kindergarten on through the performance of plays, written and artistic response to literature, and dramatic reading.
Elementary library media centers follow the Warwick policy of allowing weekly book checkout. Although students are limited to three items, they are allowed any number of books over that amount if the materials are needed for research and reports. Staff, faculty and parents may also borrow materials from the library.

Interlibrary Loan Program (ILL)- Warwick Public Schools
Warwick School Libraries aim to support the various needs of the academic community and curriculum, K-12, through purchasing materials relevant to each library’s learning population. However, it is fiscally pertinent to include borrowing materials from throughout the state of Rhode Island, be it a K-12 facility or a public library, in order to provide a larger scope of information to the learning community. For this reason, Warwick School Libraries participate in the Office Library Information Science (OLIS) interlibrary loan (ILL) program, funded by the Office of the Governor. Warwick School Libraries that are approved by the OLIS ILL certification and have the appropriate staffing to support said program, may participate in ILL services. Schools that are certified by OLIS will then become part of Rhode Island consortium called RILINK, where members share and borrow resources. As RILINK member schools, we share our resources with other members in support of the mission, “to foster innovative learning and creative research in school libraries through partnerships and resource sharing for student success.”
Who can submit ILL requests?
Teachers and staff can submit ILL requests. Students may make requests with permission from the library teacher.
Which collections are available for interlibrary loan?
All materials in the Destiny catalog are available for ILL, with the exception of recently acquired items which may be set aside for walk-in patrons. ILL requests will be filled at the discretion of the school librarian. For example, if a book is on hold for a patron, teacher or classroom in our library, it may be temporarily unavailable for lLL.
There are no charges or fees connected with ILL, except in the event of a lost item. In which case, as the borrowing library any fees incurred will be passed on to the borrowing patron.
Loan period for materials borrowed from our library is 30 days. Lending libraries’ loan periods will be adhered to and any overdue fees will be passed on to the borrowing patron.
There is no limit to the number of items a teacher can request.
